Improved Patient Care through Lawsuit Protection and Prevention
Pediatric dentists face unique legal exposures due to treating minors, managing parental expectations, supervising clinical staff, and operating highly regulated practices. This course teaches proven, effective strategies to prevent and protect against lawsuits, providing the peace of mind necessary to focus on patient safety, compliance, and quality care. Participants will learn legal and structural protection strategies that many dental and financial advisors overlook.
- Common sources of lawsuits pediatric dentists face and how to protect against them, including failure to diagnose or treat, informed consent issues, anesthesia and sedation complications, staff negligence, record keeping errors, and premises liability.
- How pediatric dentists can protect both professional and personal assets from lawsuits.
- Best practices for structuring a pediatric dental practice to reduce legal exposure.
- How to protect the practice, equipment, real estate, and personal assets in the event of a judgment exceeding liability coverage or a policy exclusion..
- Common asset protection mistakes made by pediatric dentists and their advisors, such as improper ownership structures or relying solely on insurance.
- Risks of operating as a sole proprietor and how to avoid them.
- Strategies to minimize vicarious liability for the actions of hygienists, dental assistants, associate dentists, and office staff.
Objectives:
1. Maintain focus on patient care by reducing legal risk exposure.
2. Understand practice structures that support lawsuit protection and prevention.
3. Identify strategies to reduce professional and general liability insurance costs.
